Re: Perception by others that sensitivity is *your* fault, rather than just biochemistry? - cortisone injections not working because of AF?

This reminds me of what my mother said to me once (we were

discussing my grandmother - always hilarious, in a draining sort of

way) that " Young people should just somehow get to live a WEEK in the

body of an (sic) old person " - with all the cognitive deficits,

rickety bones, etc that old people (talking upper 80's or 90's here)

have to deal with. THEN young people (and even middle aged - ie

40's or 50's) might understand better and not be so impatient.

Hypocrits.. My mom just said with reference to my grandma that

" you should at least try things to see if they work.. " Yeah, you

should, unless of course *I* suggest it - a thyroid/cortisol panel!

Grandma has a persistent pain in her neck/head (we think there is a

shoulder/neck pain that is caused by a muscle spasm - it responds

positively to heat), and there some kind of pain that seems to

radiate up into her head (neuropathic?). Gabapentin didn't seem to

do anything. Maximum strength tylenol seems to help (if she

remembers to take them..), and we're doing exercises to try to help

the muscle spasm.

The interesting thing is she had a 2 cortisone injections, and

then 2 more two months later, which didn't seem to do anything (by

her report, which is cryptic at best :( I'm wondering - what if the

reason the cortisone injections didn't work was because there wasn't

enough base cortisol to " sustain " the effect - or if the injections

were just used by the body for " normal " cortisol uses, and not for

the localized anti-inflammatory effect they're " intended " for. Does

this make sense?

Now, if only I could find an actual M.D. to say that.. Perhaps

I'll have to get us BOTH out to see Dr. Linderman in Pennsylvania..

Whell freezes over I'm afraid - at least adrenal hell. Diabetic hell

already has - partially, with the ADA's tepid acceptance of low-carb

diets for weight control.

Y'all, I'm still convinced that accupuncture and deep tissue massage has

helped keep my adrenals functioning.

A liver clease in next on the list. With all my sugeries, steroids and

antibiotics, it just makes sense.

Okay, meds have kicked in, time to get off the computer.

Thanks for all the good conversation.
