Guest guest
My 10 year old daughter has been diagnosed with Crohn's and we as a family started the SCD about 4 weeks ago. It's tough but we are managing. Symptom intensity and energy are gradually improving. However, weight loss is a problem. She is losing too much weight, she's practically anorexic. I understand form my research with this diet that the weight loss should cease after the first month. However, are there recommendations as to foods high in calories that are SCD friendly? thanks

First of all, tell us what and how much of each your daughter is eating. That allows us to make some suggestions about what to add. One thing to realize is that since she is no longer filling up on carbs, she now needs more protein and healthy fats to make up her full calorie count. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

You can be generous with butter and other oils when preparing meals. You can add cream when making yogurt. Have you tried avacados? The chicken soup certainly sticks to your ribs. You can try my cholester-o-bomb recipe: - pan fry shaved or thinly sliced steak - sautee peppers, onions and mushrooms -- cook them well and add to steak - toss in 6 or so eggs - smother with cheddar cheese - eat - gain weight (BTW you don't have to worry about cholesterol.) -- Cheers, DF in MA UC June '07 SCD Nov '
