Guest guest
A lot depends on the MELD score when you are listed. If the MELD score is 15 and the average MELD score for transplant is 23, then it might be a while. I have had two transplants, the first on was before the implementation of the MELD score. I was listed for 18 months. The second time I was listed with a MELD score of 25 and waited only one month. The MELD score is suppose to indicate how sick you are and should go up the longer you wait. The biggest issue is if you are getting sicker, but your MELD isn't going up. > > Could someone please tell me how long it takes (on average) once > someone is on a liver transplant list to get a liver? Guest guest
My husband had a liver transplant in April 5,2005 was listed on the list and was called for transplant in 8 days. His meld score was a 22. He could no longer be stented which put him a high risk for infection. He is a auto technician and was back to work in 6 months. He works 5 days a week and 10 to 12 hours a day. He just had his second re-birthday and is doing great.. His meds has been reduced alot. He does experience trouble sleeping but, figure that may be due to meds. I think the wait on the list is based on where you live. We live near Cincinnati, Ohio. It seems people don't wait as long here as I have heard from other places. They have a very successful transplant rate and we had a very good experience. They are very caring and knowledgeable. Best of Luck and hope you get good news soon. Tina Transplant Lists Could someone please tell me how long it takes (on average) once someone is on a liver transplant list to get a liver? I've a few success stories of patients' health improving dramatically once they had a transplant, but what is the risk of staying on the list too long and not making it because they couldn't find a match?
