Guest guest
, I had my transplant two days before thanksgiving and I'm starting back to work next week. I went into it at 47 yrs old and MELD below 15 (possible only because of living donor). Everyone's results are different. When I went into it I figured that I had a 5% chance of buying the farm (graft survival at one year is about 90%) and a 30% chance of having a severe complication (bile leak, infection, rejection, bleeding, medication reaction). I took the plunge and have not had complications. As you make your own estimates, you may come up with different numbers but in the end you will push forward with transplantation since there is nothing to reverse the underlying PSC. Guest guest
I was 51 when I had my transplant 4/4/98. I went back to work 3 months later after the 4th of July weekend. Prior to returning to work my doctors asked me if I was sure I didn't need more recovery time. They said writing letters to support 3 more months of disability would be no problem. But I was ready, and had been for almost a month, so I refused their offer of an extended disability. If you haven't yet read the " transplant stories " in the Links section of the web site, http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group//links, please look through them. They represent fairly typical transplants both living donor and cadaveric, with a range of complications that can occur in even the healthiest of individuals. Good luck in ville. Guest guest
, I have had two liver transplants. The first one was in 1997 when I was 36. I went back to work two months after the transplant with no complications. I had the second transplant in 2004 when I was 43. I went back to work 3 months after my transplant. I felt good enough to go back after 2 months, but took the extra time off to be safe. My work has two levels of disablity, short term and long term. Short term kicked in after the first month and lasts until six months. Long term kicks in then. > > I do not often post to this site but I wonder if some could provide feedback on the time it > usually takes to recover from a liver transplant and get back to work on a full time basis.
