Guest guest
IMHO there is no good way to test for adrenal insufficiency unless you are really really bad. Doing a 6 week trial with up to 20mg HC and seeing if your " adrenal-ish " symptoms start to go away is probably the best bet... You could very well have " normal " baseline cortisol, but your response to stress (or reserve) might be poor. > > Hi, > > One of my docs is willing to help with adrenals and thyroid, he feels > that my cortisol is fine according to the blood test, one at 8Am, the > next at 4PM that were within range. Cortisol blood tests are next to useless. If he is willing ask him to do cortisol and ACTH before and after exercise. You'd have to check for details in Andy's book and make sure that they draw the blood at the right times. (I,m not sure how many days you'd have to off of isocort to do the test). Or a saliva cortisol test would be informative. Yet I have ALL the symptoms of low > cortisol. I had to switch to sustained release T3 (compounded) - which is wonderful if you can get it. Be sure to optimize adrenals first or replacing thyroid will make you feel worse. Guest guest
NTH adrenals (yahoo forum) is doing a lot of experimenting with straight T3 these days...might want to read what they have to say. They are taking about receptor sites blocked with reverse T3 and how taking straight T3 seems to be able ot unblock that (I didn't evenknow that reverse T3 was somehting that blocked the sites as well....) I ahve been taking it , but that is only because I became intolerant of Armour (T3/T4 combo) My adrenals are very weak, and I only take small amounts..... just enough to keep me from " dying " , until I can find a way to get Timed release T3. ~Inga > Hi, > > One of my docs is willing to help with adrenals and thyroid, he feels > that my cortisol is fine according to the blood test, one at 8Am, the > next at 4PM that were within range. Guest guest
Raquel, I've been on Cytomel for 4-5 years & really don't know where I'd be right now if I hadn't entered the office of a doctor who recognized the need for it. For some reason (allergic/pork?) I feel worse on Armour, and there was a clear T-3 problem with early tests. My body temperature rises a bit with it, hair/nails stronger, mind - specifically short term memory - functions better with it, etc. My hope is to get off of it, or at least reduce the dose, if chelation does its job in the next couple years. I wish thyroid had offered all the answers, but sadly, things are much more complex with serious amalgam toxicity. I added Isocort, 2 pellets taken 3X per day with 12.5 mg Cytomel, and that improved my energy so that my pm's & evenings are a bit more productive. Best wishes for healing, Joanne > For the tyroid, he suggested I research Cytomel, and get back at him- > He is such a sweet heart . Guest guest
Dear Raquel: I think it depends upon the person. If you go to the website www.stopthethyroidmadness.com there is some very good information there on different thyroid products and their ability to help the thyroid function properly. Personally, I did not do well on a synthetic T4 (Synthroid or Levoxyl with cytomel or a time released T3). I really started to improve after I switched to Armour and began hydrocortisone for the adrenals. However, as you can see from the different posts, folks have to find out what works best for them. la > > > For the tyroid, he suggested I research Cytomel, and get back at > him- > > He is such a sweet heart . Guest guest
Thank you Inga, off I go to that group. I remember you from the autismmercury group, are you getting better? It seems that my doc is onto something, uh? Thanks, Raquel > > > Hi, > > > > One of my docs is willing to help with adrenals and thyroid, he feels > > that my cortisol is fine according to the blood test, one at 8Am, the > > next at 4PM that were within range.
