Guest guest
Dear Friends, We know that it really " takes a village to raise a child " ! So why are our children with special needs and their families feeling so lonely? I am a mom who has decided to create a space, dedicated to children with special needs and their families, at absolutely no charge to them. I am not looking to cure anything. I have nothing to sell. I just want to help, and I need yours to make it happen. Hearing that my son, now 4, had PDD-NOS was very painful, but quickly realizing I didn't know what to do next was definitely worse. Who do I call first? Where do I find other parents like me? Is there an alternative to " Google-ing " every piece of information which leads to even more confusion? How can my child simply enjoy being a child, when he never gets invited for " play dates " or gets reprehensive looks in public play areas for seemingly inappropriate behavior? If anything else, I did find out what a financial burden it can be if you want to do everything you can for your child – don't we all? - and how little help, if any, you can obtain. Located in Palm Beach Gardens, " The Bubble Tree " is: - A fun and cozy playroom where our children with special needs can interact with other children, while assisted by volunteers trained professionals. Therapists are also welcome to use the structure with their clients. - A friendly place for parents to connect, exchange information, support each other and seek the advice of professionals as needed. - A safe place for scheduled classes and seminars, free of charge. - A resource center with various publications and brochures on display and a computer with internet access. It is a fairly small space, it's a baby step. But with your help, who knows what it might become? I need volunteer professionals to assist the children in their social interaction, in the playroom, and to be available to parents should they have any concern, question or simply need to talk. The schedule will be designed according to each person's availability. I am also looking for professionals willing to offer scheduled classes and activities for the children (music, gym, etc...) as well as for the parents (support groups, seminars, etc...). This can be on a volunteer basis or for a reasonable fee. Your participation might provide exposure to your own activities, but certainly promises to offer a fulfilling and rewarding experience. The center will open approximately May 15. To sign up as a volunteer or for any inquiries, please feel free to contact me at anytime via email at cecilegiraud@... or on my mobile at (954) 547-3497. I hope to hear from you soon, Cecile Giraud-Katz
