We just replaced our over ten years. Auctioned them off and got 30.00 each

Lifepak 500

What is the lifespan of a Lifepak 500 AED. We have numerous AED's that are on

engines and staff vehicles that have never been used. With the economy and

shrinking budgets I am wondering how long should they be kept in service? How

long are other department using theirs. When should they be replaced? Would love

to hear other opinions.

We've been involved with AEDS since the 1990s, and as far as I know

there are none that have failed generally due to age. They don't wear

out in general, because they get very little use.

What I tell all my customers (we have AEDs that have been in place for

10 years) is that, if they still self-check ok, they are probably ok. I

got rid of all our older, monphasic AEDs when the evidence for

lower-energy biphasic shocks made it clear this was a superior

technology. But as far as a general replacement due to age, I don't

think we've seen that happen yet.
