Residential Fee

Why This Is Important to Florida Families?

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) in Florida is implementing the Residential Fee for people with disabilities living in licensed residential facilities. People with disabilities, after using their SSI or other third party benefits to pay for room and board, and after a small personal allowance, are required to send the remaining of the benefit to the agency. Most of those people with disabilities are at or bellow poverty level.

Up to now, this remaining money was used for personal items, transportation or to pay for a companion in outings in the community. Without that income, people with disabilities are being denied their right to choose how to manage their own needs and are being denied their right to participate in the community.

Please, sign the petition and ask APD to reverse the Residential Feehttps://www.change.org/petitions/agency-for-persons-with-disabilities-florida-reverse-residential-fee
