As far as I know, it's not so much a health concern that general doctors would be concerned about as it is something to consider if you want to achieve optimum health. If I'm not mistaken, pH is basically the oxygen concentration is your cells, so it is much healthier to be alkaline rather than acidic. In general, raw fruits and veggies are alkaline while most other things, especially meats, sugar and alcohol, are more acidic. Since the SCD limits raw things at the beginning and is high in animal products, I'm not too surprised that your pH is like that. In my opinion, you just have to prioritize. At the moment, the more pressing matter is probably healing yours or your daughters gut. However, when you are stable on the mainly cooked foods SCD, it would probably be better to tend more towards raw food. Just take everything super slow and introduce things carefully!Good luck!Pour Dieu, pour terre,Alyssa =DI recently read that a consistently low urine ph can lead to problems. So I went out and bought test strips. Well, both Kaitlyn & I tested at about 5.0 or 5.5 today, and I think I've been this way for a long time. We eat 2, sometimes 3, cups of yogurt per day as Elaine suggested as a limit. We also eat a lot of meats and veggies. So my questions are:Did Elaine ever discuss whether or not ph balance is very important and to try to get the balance to 7.0 ??Has anyone else also tested low (very acidic)? If yes, what measures did you take to return it to around 7.0?Should we cut back on yogurt and take the acidophilus supplement more?I feel lost! Help!! Maybe I should talk to her pediatrician? my primary? I'll test again tomorrow.-Kaitlyn's MomKaitlyn, age 10CD 6/07SCD 9/07med-free 9/08( SCD 90%)
