If you watch KBTX news tonight at 2200 (or do the Net thing) it will make

perfect sense.

The one and only cop (AKA the Police Chief) in Oakwood, Leon County was

busted for using his City owned Taser on his wife (allegedly) hence the lead

story and not a single mention of EMS on the rest of the news cast. I am sure

that the other media sources will follow suit.

As for the laying off the sauce, hell no I like my liver pickled.

Unless something happens to keep this issue in the news it will be

forgotten by everyone including KBTX. Granted they may keep the clips and

stories

on the web page as server space allows but it will not be news unless it is

news.

Old news is not news and this type of thing gets old fast unless pushed to

the forefront. I watched their broadcasts last night nothing said.

I agree with what you are saying, but I think it is unrealistic to expect

otherwise. They are not likely to do a daily " Leon County Held Hostage: Day

16 " report until this drama is concluded. Sure, I'd like to see it. And if

the county suddenly lost the sheriff's department or fire protection, there

would be much more coverage. After all, thanks to television, most citizens

think we are all firemen in the first place. But we don't even see daily

reports on the war in Iraq anymore, so I am not surprised that a small portion

of

a lightly populated county losing it's ambulances is not major news.

The sad part about all of this is that the citizens of that district are not

marching on the courthouse, newspapers, and tv stations themselves,

demanding solutions. And if they don't care, why should anyone else?

The next story on this will be when there's a terrific crash on the

Interstate during a blinding rain with multiple badly hurt people and no

ambulances

or helicopters.

Then the wailing and hand wringing will start up again, only to fade once

more.

After all, it's a lot more fun to watch the reality shows, see what's

happening with the Somali pirates, and which Hollywood celeb got caught with

meth

again, who's going to be the first lady without a husband or a job to have

NINE (count 'em-9) kids all at once, and so forth.

These stories only require our passive enjoyment. Whereas, solving the

Leon County problem requires getting out of our beanbag chairs, putting down

our beer and Cheetos, and actually DOING SOMETHING. It also involves

spending money, and we're not keen on doing that, unless it's other peoples'

money.

All in all, people get exactly what they deserve. You can argue that

travelers on I-45 do not deserve lack of medical care, but since they elect the

Legislature and the Governor, the overall problem belongs to us all.

Texas does not have initiative and referendum (thank goodness) but if it

did, and an initiative was put to the ballot to require every county in Texas

to provide emergency medical care, who thinks it would pass?

The rainy season approacheth. Stand by for ...................NEWS!

ambulances

or helicopters.

The next story on this will be when there's a terrific crash on the

Interstate during a blinding rain with multiple badly hurt people and no

I agree with what you are saying, but I think it is unrealistic to expect

otherwise. They are not likely to do a daily " Leon County Held Hostage: Day 16 "

report until this drama is concluded. Sure, I'd like to see it. And if the

county suddenly lost the sheriff's department or fire protection, there would be

much more coverage. After all, thanks to television, most citizens think we are

all firemen in the first place. But we don't even see daily reports on the war

in Iraq anymore, so I am not surprised that a small portion of a lightly

populated county losing it's ambulances is not major news.

The sad part about all of this is that the citizens of that district are not

marching on the courthouse, newspapers, and tv stations themselves, demanding

solutions. And if they don't care, why should anyone else?

Oh, the helicopters will be there…I am sure they are looking at rental space

in Leon County as we write this. A helicopter subscription is cheaper than ESD

taxes…can’t you just see the marketing scheme in front of the Wal-Mart? What

a deal!

Subject: Re: Leon County Poses I-45 Driving Dilemma

Oh, the helicopters will be there…I am sure they are looking at rental space

in Leon County as we write this. A helicopter subscription is cheaper than ESD

taxes…can’t you just see the marketing scheme in front of the Wal-Mart? What

a deal!

The sad part about all of this is that the citizens of that district are not

marching on the courthouse, newspapers, and tv stations themselves, demanding

solutions. And if they don't care, why should anyone else?

The Citizens have spoken...they voted down an?ESD twice.? Unfortunately in most

cases, ESD's are only additional taxes, and in our current economic state, most

folks are not willing to freely add additional taxes no matter what the reason.?

I agree with what you are saying, but I think it is unrealistic to expect

otherwise. They are not likely to do a daily " Leon County Held Hostage: Day 16 "

report until this drama is concluded. Sure, I'd like to see it. And if the
