Guest guest
seeing as how I'm only using 5 units of my Novalog flex pen mix, twice a day, is it still important to eat 15 minutes after I take the dose? my thinking is even if I waited as much as 30 to 45 minutes to eat I would be ok. of course I do understand if my test showed my sugar was in the 80's, then it would be ver important to eat with in the 15 minutes after the shot. I'm running between 100 and 115 now that he dropped me to only 5 units twice a day. some times I do forget the shot and take it right after I eat. seems like now that he has dropped my dose I can't seem to remember to take it every time before I eat. it doesn't seem to mess my sugar up though when I do take the shot right after I eat. then again if the book says to take the shot 15 minutes before you eat, then who am I to argue with those who wrote the book with all the answers? actually seems to me if my sugar was as high as 120, then I could take the 5 units of insulin and not eat and still be fine. I haven't tried this and don't believe I will either! just was simply a wondering is all. got to use my brain or I will losses it you know? use it or loose it is the old saying. of course this doesn't hold true with money! you can pile money up and it will actually grow over time if you don't use it. I've never actually had this happen for me, nor have I ever seen it actually grow, but my parents did try to tell me it was so. they said money didn't spoil and could lay in your pocket or wallet for years and never die or turn to dust. I never had this problem either. I believe money is to use to live with and because of. I figure if you got so much that you have to sit on it like a Momma hen, then you should share with your buddies because you got to much to use. we will always have rainy days and you and I can't save enough green backs for every rainy day that will happen in our life time. depending on where you live of course. ever noticed when you have a C note and you have to break it? it never will last long after you have to break it down to use. I've noticed this to be true with twenty's as well. they can't last long unless they remain a twenty or a C note. do they still make a bill bigger then a C note? seems like when I was but a baby pig still in school, we took a field trip and went to see the working order of a bank. seems like we got to hold either a $500 bill or a $1,000 bill. can't be sure because my brain can't get a good hold on that long ago time. I know one of you old timers will know the answer though. I bet the nurse Pat and grandpa Cy both got lots of C notes stuffed all over there house! maybe I should come help them clean house???? Guest guest
The trouble with going by the book is, the people who wrote the books usually aren't diabetics. (My opinion, and not necessarily a fact, but a good guess.) Now, as far as when to take your insulin, Mark, I have been taking my Humalog (fast acting) insulin immediately after eating for umpteen years. My reasoning is simple: Once I've eaten, I know precisely how much food I need to allow for with my insulin dose. So, IMO, I think you are perfectly fine taking it right after you eat. And, as always, let your meter be the final authority. Take your insulin after eating, and check your blood sugars. If they're good, then you're good to go.
