Hi Val,

The intro was key to my success on this diet. I've been in SCD less

than a year so I'm not really one of the experts, but from hanging

around this support group I've learned that going through Intro

really helps with the diet being successful.

I hope you move through your flare and get back to feeling well.

Hi Val,

Yes, I would recommend doing the intro diet  for a few days when

you get home. www.PecanBread.com has an

outline of the stages after the intro diet. They are useful and sometimes food

allergies are uncovered. If you cannot have your 24 hour yogurt you can take a

supplement called acidophilus, made by Lyosan . Acidophilus are the good gut

bacteria, also found in yogurt. Refrigeration is recommended for the capsules.

They travel well and are easy to throw into your purse, even if you don’t

have refrigeration.

I had many flare ups when I began the diet. Stress, either

physical or mental, can set off a flare, in my experience. Stick with the diet

and it will see you through. For some, healing happens slowly, for others,

quickly. It’s different for everyone. It took me about 2 years of being

on the SCD to stop having D. I really started to heal after I rooted out all

illegals in my diet. There were some lurking in my vitamins and other

supplements that I took every day.

Oh-and make sure you stay hydrated (water, diluted legal fruit

juice, electrolyte (4 cups boiling water, ¼ tsp sea salt, ¼ tsp baking soda,

optional 2 Tbls honey. Good for 24 hours then make another batch).

Val, do you have a diagnosis?

Hi,

I just began the diet 3 weeks ago. It's results had been immediate and

wonderful. Unfortunately I had to travel to my Grandmother's in another state

and jump from hotel to relatives and hotels again. Needless to say it was

difficult to get my yogurt. I managed to have 4 days of yogurt in 11 days. The

good news is I fly home on Saturday and have a batch starting in the kitchen as

I type. Well, yesterday I had an attack. I am not sure if it was because I

hadn't had enough yogurt while eating more almonds than usual. Would anyone be

able to shed some light? It could also be that there is an extreme amount of

stress concerning my grandmother's health. I am not sure. Breaking the Viscious

Cycle said there may be a relapse in 3 months. Does it happen sooner for some

people? Or is this because I didn't follow the intro diet? Is the intro diet

worth following when I get back?

Thanks,

Val

Hi Carol,

Diagnosis? I think you are asking when and what I was diagnosed with. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitus in 2007. I had a reprieve during my pregnancy in 2008. And as the breastfeeding tapered down the symptoms flared, right in the middle of moving from one end of the US to the other with 4 cats and a 8 month old. So, I think sress is one of my bestest triggers!!! I tend to suck it up until it's over. Trying to fix that!

Take care,

Val
