Guest guest
The transplant surgeon just called Ken. He said Ken was #2 in Region 4 and might be getting a call tonight!! They have a liver and are in the process of deciding who gets it. I was totally shocked, we weren’t in our wildest dreams thinking it might be this soon even though we watch the list (because of Ken’s AB blood type we can tell where he is.) Ken told him he felt fine and wasn’t having any major problems, other then the “normal” symptoms. Doc said with PSC, sooner is better than later – I agree, but not this soon! I tried to talk to Ken about turning the liver down and waiting – that’s a no go, he is ready now, and if they call him back, he said, he’ll say yes. I know there is a patient in Houston with a MELD of 19-24 so I assume that’s the #1 they talked about. Yikes, I’m so not ready. Funny thing is, I was just e-mailing his coordinator and setting up his next labs for April 12 (I’m almost positive they will go down, he doesn’t look nearly as yellow as he was). I sure hope the patient in Houston gets the call. It’s such a hard decision, go early and avoid being totally run down, cancer and???? Or, keep your own parts as long as you can. Ken knows the pros and cons; the decision is up to him. I’ll let you know…..but I’m hoping for no phone calls tonight. Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes!
