Just a note- the last I heard, Castle Hills only operates a Rescue Box and first

responds to EMS runs in their city limits. I believe they contract out to San

FD/EMS for the transport unit. So, this isn't really a charge for

calling 911 (since it only applies to EMS), rather they're simply charging an

aid fee since they're not transporting (and subsequently can't bill an insurance

company).

That practice is not really different than any other EMS agency that charges a

aid-only fee....right?

Right. Now, I wonder if it will cut down on calls? I have friends with SAFD in

that district and relatives who live in Castle Hills. I going to keep a watch on

how this " new " approach is working.

Slight correction...it is no different than any other first responder who

charges for first responding...except they won't charge the first time they come

out to see you.

The actual ordinance does not mention 911 calls...just billing for runs:
