Hi just a quick question if anyone knows.

Does having Low Iodine in your hair test mean that you have low

amounts of Iodine available to you regarding your thyroid?

Many thanks

Yes. Just to clarify, in the HTI book, Andy doesn't generally

recommend supplementation of an essential unless it is in the low

red. I suggested taking iodine because it was on the low side and

because you mentioned possibly having thyroid symptoms (I also

suggested a couple of others because they were on the low side

and they are basic supplements for the protocol).

Do you know if Andy has ever said anything abut whether he thinks the

patch test is valid? I took it today (paint on some iodine and see how

fast it disappears). According to that, I am *very low in iodine, but

my hair tests put it in low green or yellow. I'm quite tempted to try

Iodoral.

I just checked onibasu and found nothing. Did your hair test

meet the counting rules? If so, then the iodine level is

meaningless. If not, then the iodine level probably reflects

body burden.

If you decide to supplement it, the only negative I have heard

of with it is sometimes people can have a sensitivity/allergic

reaction to it. I guess I would start with a small amount for

a while before ramping it up to the big doses. I'm just taking

kelp for now.

Yes, the last one was all-low, which if I remember right makes a lot

of the measurements untrustworthy.

I have to say I felt great from the patch test. Focused, but not

over-focused. At nighttime I noticed I looked lively instead of

drained and death-warmed-over, like I usually do at that point. I'm

going to start with low doses of Iodoral and see what happens.

Is the kelp doing something for you?

Abraham, one of the " iodine " doctors, says the patch test isn't valid:

http://optimox.com/pics/Iodine/updates/UNIOD-02/UNIOD_02.htm

My personal thoughts on it is that it can be used as a VERY rough guide

in how your own iodine status may be changing (but not necessarily

sufficiency) IF you can control some of the variables. Those would

include the exact size of the patch, the type/amount of iodine used,

skin temperature (clothed/not clothed skin), rotation of test site (no

local iodine buildup), etc.

My own patch disappeared in 4 hours before I started supplementing. An

iodine loading test showed I was low. The last patch test lasted 16

hours. But I didn't do much for " controls " :) So, did I just paint

extra iodine & make a darker stain that took longer to disappear the

second time? I tried not to, but who knows.

Doctors that are using iodine clinically to treat patients recommend

the iodine loading test for determining if you have whole body

sufficiency. It's $80 ($100 if you get it with the spot test). Some

info on the test:

If you're interested in supplementing iodine, I recommend you check out

the Iodine4Health website & the Yahoo Iodine group. They have a LOT of

information.

Thanks for that link, . I'd been wandering around that site but

hadn't found that yet.

That was my thought too.

Did you also feel much better just from doing the test?

It looks like nearly everyone who does the test comes out low, and

nearly everyone who supplements for three months reaches sufficiency.

Do you know if anyone is supping by how she feels? I don't know why

I'm resistant to the test. Just tired of them I guess. :P
