Guest guest
Tom, Hi--my son has GERD with bad reflux at night. I know slippery elm is not SCD legal. I read that sliced apple at night helps absorb the acid and for my son this works. Also sleeping slightly elevated will help--being prone aggravates the already dysfunctional sphincter Okra pepsin is touted as a bowel cleanser...doesn't sound legal to me. Comfrey is an herb with mucilage and therefore makes it illegal as well. I think those may be touted because current thinking is that fiber will help reduce acid. If this is the case, then legal pea beans as a snack at night may be more appropriate. I have never heard of a chiropracter being able to adjust a hiatal hernia. There are sliding hiatal hernias and para-esophogeal hernias. Do you know which you have? The problem with not correcting the reflux is damage to the esophagus with higher risk of cancer there. You're hernia may calm down on it's own, but you do need a short term antacid like ranitidine ( Zantac) to help with symptoms. Terry acid reflux aids I've aggravated an otherwise quiet hiatal hernia (through physical movement, notfood), and now am experiencing bad acid reflux that keeps me up at night. Iread online that slippery elm or comfrey or okra pepsin can help by absorbingdigestive secretions and preventing them from backing up into esophagus. Iknow antacids are typically prescribed for reflux, but I also know they takeaway the good acids one needs for digestion, as well. Anyone have anyexperience with this condition and found scd legal aids?I've also read that a trained massage therapist or chiropractor can "adjust" ahiatal hernia back into place. Anyone have luck with this? How did you goabout finding such a person?thanks, tomibs / cfsscd 7/
Guest guest
Hi Tom, I also suffer from acid reflux. What helps me alot at night is to have my upper body elevated to at least a 45 degree angle, and to eat high carbs (squash, peas with butter) and yogurt before bed. If you wake up with heartburn, have some more yogurt. Good luck, > > I've aggravated an otherwise quiet hiatal hernia (through physical movement, not> food), and now am experiencing bad acid reflux that keeps me up at night. > thanks, > tom > ibs / cfs > scd 7/09 >
