Guest guest
I posted before about going to a family style steak place, so here are some notes on how it went. First- all steaks are not " legal " as these were pre- marinated. I called ahead of time and found out that the fillets were not marinated. Then I learned that everything was cooked in soybean oil. So when I got there, I tried to talk to the man who cooked the steaks- but he did not speak English.... but the head waiter intervened and got him to cook a fillet completely plain and away from the other steaks and utensils. All the vegetables were pre- prepared in " butter " as I was told but when I asked about the " butter " I learned it was a " buttery margarine mix " so I ordered a plain lettuce salad with oil & vinegar on the side......but the oil was soybean!!! So I had my salad with a slice of lemon for flavor. The best part? I did this behind the scenes away from my group so I did not stand out. Nobody seemed to notice that my dinner was different. We had a great time. I had brought some cooked veggies which I ate later as a snack. It went better than I though- but beware- food is not what it always seems to be, and you have to ask a lot of questions!! And don't assume the cook understands you. But the head waiter-manager was very helpful. PJ
