Hi Deborah

From memory Andy only recommends about one week per month on Licorice.

The problem is that if you keep taking it, it stops working.

Licorice helps your body 'retain' cortisol and stimulates 'receptors' for

corisol and aldosterone.

But if you take it longer than 6 weeks you lose its effects. I believe this

is true of all herbs. They should be cycled.

Best to take it properly and know how much Glyc Acid you are taking (this is

the active component of Licorice).

I know of no problem with taking the adrenal and adrenal cortex permanently

as they are proteins, not herbs.

You can go on ginseng during those two week breaks from licorice, but

remember ginseng 'boosts' your adrenals, and it is not a good idea to

'boost' already tired adrenals. So ginseng should be used when your adrenals

are well-ish and only for short bursts when you need it.

Licorice doesn't boost adrenals, it works on cortisol, that is why tired

adrenal like it.

But adrenals that are making no cortisol won't really benefit, as you can't

retain something you are not making :-)

You could go off the licorice and use some cortisol during that 2 week break

if you need (like HC cream or HC if you have some experience with it.)

Do you know, does it help you retain cortisol from outside sources

(that the body isn't making), like HC or Isocort or ACE ? So as to

possibly enhance the effects of the dose you are taking. I've been

trying this with Isocort and licorice, and it does seem to noticeably

help 'smooth' things out.

thanks,

NJ
