Guest guest
Thank you for this information! I hadn’t heard much about OA in a long time. I like the CEA name better—I hope it spreads. Seems more accurate. I’ll check out their website. I don’t think it’s the plan for me either, but I like to know what’s going on… Laurie lbilyeu@... Just to clear things up, the CEA-HOW program does not require you to be on a specific food plan. They have one they offer OR you can follow one approved by a qualified professional. However, the program is rigourous. You do not eat sugar. They also require that you work the 12 step program originally developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. The program does work, I lost 60 pounds and kept it off for 4 years. Then I had kids and stopped going to meetings and using the food plan my nutritionist gave me. I am using Weight Watchers now, and the food plan seems more reasonable and sustainable with my current lifestyle. Here in Colorado it is just called O.A.(Overeaters Anonymous) H.O.W. Cheryl in Colorado This is from www.ceahow.org http://www.ceahow.org/faq.htm Do we have a diet? No! CEA-HOW is not a diet club. However CEA-HOW does have a food plan. We ask that you follow this food plan or a comparable one approved by a physician or nutritionist. a What about sugar? Do I really have to give it up and why? We have found that the artificial sweeteners found in most restaurants which are in the blue and pink packages are good to use in moderation. Our years of experience show - and our food plan is designed for - people who, because of their addiction to refined carbohydrates, need to abstain from all sugars, flour, and refined starches. Keep in mind that all sugar and flour must be listed 5th or greater in the ingredients of all products consumed. Alcohol is in fact sugar. It turns to sugar when it is digested into the system and sets us up for craving. Other forms of sugar: CORN STARCH, CORN SYRUP, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, DEXTROSE, FRUCTOSE, HONEY, LACTOSE, MALTOSE, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, MOLASSES. What about the foods we absolutely avoid and why? Alcohol, sweets of any kind, nuts, fried foods, sugared soft drinks, cream cheese, specialty cheeses, honey, and anything containing sugar or white flour. Our years of experience shows - and our food plan is designed for - people who, because of their addiction to refined carbohydrates, need to abstain from all sugars, flour, and refined starches. Abstinence is refraining from foods not included in the food plan. Total abstinence is an absolute necessity. ============== Suzanne wrote: 3 weeks ago, I started with Compulsive Eaters Anonymous and have lost about 8 lbs. On this program, you can't eat anything flour based especially for the first 30 days and sugar has to be the 5th ingredient. Being Celiac, it was actually easy to start this program. After I've been abstinent for 30 days, I can have small portions of the things we can have.
