With Cortef it is easy to just lower the dose by 2.5 mg, hold there for a couple of weeks, and then lower by another 2.5 mg (and increase back to maintenance dose if the adrenals are not responding). Most sources that I am aware of say that it is ok to use 20 mg or less of hydrocortisone for long term if the person needs it. It is best to use the lowest dose that feels the best - which would be difficult to determine with a time release formula. It is not possible to predict how long chelation will take. Chelation is different for different people.
