Guest guest
I am pretty new myself but I saw no one had responded yet so I will help as I can...american cheese is definitely out since it is neither natural cheese nor aged in any way. Old Bay is probably a no go as well, most spice combos are overtly illegal or at least suspect due to the use of starch to prevent clumping, I believe. Salami...nearly impossible that is legal, IMO. Nearly all processed meats have starch in or on them and starch is BAD. Probiotics - I have never heard of Flora-Q...which is meaningless, I found one that was legal and my search stopped there!! There is a list of legal and illegal supplement ingredients on pecanbread.com, VERY HELPFUL. Tums...no idea but I bet it has some kind of sweetener in it other than sugar and only saccharin and honey are allowed on the diet. I get my kids calcium from Whole Foods, it also contains Vitamin D and Magnesium...both of which they are low in and I think they are needed to better metabolize and use the calcium...could be wrong about that. Anyway, my brand is called Nature's Way Calcium Mag and D and it was $22 for 250 capsules...pretty reasonable by my newly warped standards. LOL!! So, this is what I know and can share. My policy is always that it is better to be safe than sorry until you can get absolute confirmations. If you go to the breakingtheviciouscycle.com site you will be able to find the legal/illegal list and the knowledge base...both have been VERY helpful to me in deciphering the whys and wherefores for my kiddos. Best of luck...remember, there is nothing to be gained by rushing through this thing. If you take your time and do a really good intro for a couple of days and then introduce things one at a time, with a day or so in between (maybe lots more in between if you are really sensitive) then you will be optimizing the diet and increase the odds of success. The diet has been WONDERFUL for my family and now that we are several weeks in we are eating all kinds of yum things...there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! Chrissy Mama to three boys on SCD Elijah, 7, autism, ADHD, had chronic alternating D and C...much better now!! iel, 3, chronic D, down to one normal formed stool a day! Alec, 1, foul smelling, bulky stool full of undigested food...yuck!..also MUCH better, almost normal > > Hello All, > > Starting the diet tomorrow, fingers crossed as i am running out of options for my UC.
