Guest guest
Can anyone clue me in to the reasons some use cornstarch?? Does it stabilize the blood sugar? Also, what do ketones in the urine mean?? Just trying to follow along!!!!! Thaks, Dayna, Mom to Alyssa 1yr 12lbs 13oz Re: Periactin and Cornstarch In my humble opinion, no harm can come from giving your child cornstarch at night. If it works, then keep it up. It's really ketones you are looking for anyway. Some kids can spill ketones and not have low blood sugar yet. But this is for older babies, not those under 1 year, I believe. It has no effect on the younger ones. Actually, if you are getting good glucose readings in the mornings on a consistent basis, I would think that you could stop the morning sticks. I did that with Max. I only tested him if I thought there was a problem - and I am an expert at telling that now. I can just look at him or smell his breath and know if ketones are there. I have to say, I have been trying the cornstarch at night and saw a difference in his blood glucose readings in the morning but really didn't see any change in behavior. Well, I forgot the cornstarch last night, and what a difference this morning. I think cornstarch may be my new best friend. LOL! Thanks for your help Beth Mom to Matt 6 yrs old, and just lost his 1st tooth! > Okay, I'm trying this again.
