Guest guest
Hi , I have been here since 1983, but haven't been on base half a dozen times so I don't know about the military side of Anchorage. From what I have seen it is a nice base in a beautiful place. I think Anchorage is a good place to live. I think my life here has been better than it would have been in lots of other places. I am from Florida and miss the warm, not hot, weather. I always wanted to wear turtle necks and wool; this is certainly a good place for that. There are many activities outdoors both summer and winter: camping, fishing, hunting, snow machining, skiing; the list goes on. I like photography and there are so many beautiful places to visit and and capture. My biggest complaints are not being able to grow tomatoes outdoors and the dark icy days in winter. The cold is not good for my lungs but your military son will not have that problem. Despite rumors, we do have 99% of what the lower 48 has, here in Anchorage anyway
Guest guest
Oh this is just super information. The kids will love it I am sure. Then are currently in Panama City at Tyndall. They both went to college in Ashland, Wisconsin and love winter sports. I think they will miss winter sports at the beach though. LOL is working on her master's in airline administration but is enjoying the life on base. We are just having a hard time wrapping on minds around Alaska and not Oklahome. Although the AF still has the last word on where they go. It could be Germany. Probalby not. Thanks for the info. I feel better now. -- In Breathe-Support , Margaret McConnell wrote: > > Hi , > > I have been here since 1983, but haven't been on base half a dozen times so I don't know about the military side of Anchorage. Guest guest
And it goes on...I am from Pensacola, we had a beach house on Santa Island. Well, we have lots of indoor pools and one of those H2 Oasis places. Oklahoma is about like Texas, but close to mom. You will just have to drive, fly or take a cruise up to see them if they do come. I was reading about some of the group driving long distances to something in South Florida. It has increased my confidence about driving out through Canada (beautiful) or taking a ferry with the car to Bellingham, Washington and taking off cross country alone. I have an alternator for my travel concentrator in the car but am afraid of getting in and out of hotels with my luggage. I have 50ft tubing (my chain) to make a radius around the car and use a shorter one in my room. If I do not rush I can do the check in and go to a restaurant walking slow. It is not having my portable liquid oxygen that worries me. I can go to drive throughs and stay out of the heat in the air conditioned car, take a cooler. There just aren't drive throughs on the Alcan and a lot of the rural country along the way, not many full service gas stations either. I am not afraid to travel alone but I am afraid something would happen health wise. Some of those long lonely roads don't have cell phone access and can get really creepy. The only times I have taken my car on a Washington state ferry, I just don't think they had elevators. I have never been on an Alaska ferry but know the trip would be absolutely beautiful. They say that liquid oxygen can be arranged along the way but it is the canisters that have to go on a cart and the one time I tried that, my husband had to wrestle with it and it wouldn't be worth it to me alone. He can't take the time off. At least these days I can plan and dream. Let me know if the kids are coming to Anchorage. Guest guest
Will do. Hubby and I honeymooned in Pensacola. Loved Santa island. We watched the dolphins play from ontop of the walls at the fort. Thanks Margaret!
