Guest guest
We just had our second appointment with Dr. Udell. The first was $350, this one was $200 and hereafter it is my understanding they will be $100 something, not sure. The first appointment was a 2 hr. one during which we were seen immediately and ran over by more than 15 minutes. The second was an information packed 1 ½ hours and followups will be an hour. The plan for us is to see him every 6 weeks or so which gives us time to save for office visitsand to implement whatever new schemes the good doctor has concocted. My child is 23 years old and has a primary dx of Down Syndrome and an additional dx of Autism along with many medical issues. When she turned 18 most of her doctors sent us on our way to locate Medicaid docs who treated adults. The last 5 years have been an absolute circus of “doctors” who have absolutely no interest in getting to the root causes of her illnesses and behaviors. We tried a biomedical route when she was very young but such treatments for Autism were really in their infancy back then. We were advised to give certain meds that were, in her case dangerous, and she ended up in the ER bleeding from her stomach. (Of course at that time there was NO connection between GI illness and Autism; in fact there was NO connection between Down Syndrome and Autism ….now understood to be comorbid conditions in at a minimum 10% in DS). Long story of course….like the rest of you here. But the last few years have found me desperately depressed and increasingly hopeless about my only child, the beautiful love of my life. This hopelessness has been replaced by a feeling I haven’t felt for so long.......genuine hope. And it started right after our first appointment with Dr. Udell.I went to his webpage when I learned he might actually agree to see an “old lady” like my daughter and I ended up reading everything on the site….all the archived blogs. I discovered he had an unbelievable sense of humor and an innovative, yet wisely cautious approach, a combination I’ve been dreaming of for 23 years. I don’t have a list of wonderful breakthroughs and successes yet to tell you all about; we have to go very slowly with as she is exquisitely sensitive to everything in her life. But Dr. Udell actually “listened” to me…moreover he actually “believed” me. And he genuinely cares about his kids; this was more than obvious. I can’t imagine finding any doctor anywhere who would take on a case like ’s, have the ability to catch on almost immediately during our first appt to the crux of her issues…..I’m actually pretty speechless to tell the truth. And so grateful. My advice for any of you would be to take advantage of this opportunity.Happy to answer any questions privately gldcst@...
