Guest guest
> Would you mind reviewing for me what worked for your son with > infection and immunity? The first thing I tried was the enzyme Virastop. Got a huge response from that -- sudden, developed social skills, ability to concentrate, learned to read quickly. I worked him up to something like 24 caps a day in 4 divided doses, which took close to 2 months, and kept him there for abut 6 weeks. Whenever I tried olive leaf extract it caused more yeast than I was willing to deal with (which is saying something). Same thing with Lauricidin. So for a long time all I did was use a lot of coconut oil in cooking, plenty of vit C, and shorter courses of Virastop a few times a year. He started to get sick less often but was still pretty sickly, nothing serious but a lot of colds, coughs, etc. that lasted a long time. He responded well to ProBoost, which is thymus extract. Sweet powder you put under your tongue, expensive. He responded well to Valtrex, although he needed to take Diflucan because it too made yeast much worse. I only kept him on Valtrex for a few month because I had a bad feeling about it for some reason. Or maybe I just got sick of wiping all the dye off the tablets. LDN has been the thing, I guess along with getting so far in chelation, that has pushed him to about 98% recovered. It did not cause yeast, just a general evening-out of the last twitchiness, better mood, better ability to handle life. He has had intermittent fevers with no other symptoms that McCandless and Megson seem to think are latent viruses coming out and being dispatched. Also beta glucan and mushrooms (cordyceps, and a product with a lot of them mixed) have been helpful too. I can't seem to find it, but I read an Andy post once that suggested taking a ton of antivirals at once, so I just started doing it all -- high dose C for awhile too. > > I still get frequent viral infections (and a couple bacterial > infections in the last year) and I must plan out what I can do to get > my immune system working better. Have you had any viral panels run? Do you think you have stealth/latent viruses or only trouble fighting off what you're exposed to now? Do you have big problems with yeast? > > I take more than the basics of Andy's supplements and am thinking of > including others (like lysine and arginine I take some of the time, I > ordered Neutrophil plus, I have OLE and some of the antivirals). Yes, I forgot NP. That followed the usual pattern -- improvements mixed with yeast. I think that's why LDN helped so much -- it seemed to help n's body get balanced between the two types of immunity rather than being all on one side (sorry, I'm blanking out on what the two sides are called). You might read McCandless's LDN yahoogroup for a bit and see if that might work for you. There are lots of adults trying it. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Autism_LDN/ >Once the virus hits I'm not that great in the thinking arena. Yep. n's cognitive and focusing abilities would go downhill fast when he was dealing with viruses. Another thing I might try -- partly because it's not complicated -- is Dana's high dose C idea. It's *really high doses though. Nell

I think it's mostly that I catch everything and still can't shake them. When I first started on the cortef I could double the cortef for three days and a cold was gone. Now they linger for a long time. Last winter I developed a nasty secondary infection (respiratory) that had to be treated with antibiotics. > Do you have big problems with yeast? > > No, but I recently have had a problem with a bacterial infection in my colon and had to take another course of antibiotics so I am getting super paranoid about every possible problem including yeast. And I'm scared that the next time I have a bacterial infection my doc might hesitate to treat it in a timely fashion. I found out these last two times how fast the infection can take me down. It's scary. >You might read McCandless's LDN yahoogroup for > a bit and see if that might work for you. I had my regular doc do one that looked for various herpes viruses, EBV, and a few other things. I don't think it went to a specialty lab or anything. > > When I first started on the cortef I could double the cortef > for three days and a cold was gone. Now they linger for a long time. Even when you double the Cortf? That's interesting. I headed off flu by doubling my Cortef and I thought it was serious magic I felt so much better so quickly. I wonder why that effect would wear off. > And I'm scared that the next time I have a bacterial infection my doc > might hesitate to treat it in a timely fashion. I found out these > last two times how fast the infection can take me down. It's scary. It sounds scary. Have you tried the usual natural antibiotics, like oil of oregano and Biocidin?
