You might need to add some filler to be able to split into 32 parts. Guest guest
, It's very important that you maintain consistent dosage, and I find it unlikely that dividing something up 32 ways will give you very exacting dosages. I think you should start by dividing your capsule up 32 ways, as suggests, possibly mixing the DMPS with a filler like Vitamin C to make it easier to split up, if you can get the filler mixed in well. This will give you some idea of the size of an 11 mg. dose of DMPS. I'm thinking it would be miniscule unless you had added filler. Then, I suggest you find a very small gelatin or similar capsule. You may have one from a supplement or medicine you already have on hand, or you can order them. The smallest size is a Size 5. For capsule sizes, see http://www.capsuleworld.com/capsules.htm. I've never seen the very small ones in health food retail stores. Pull the capsule apart, and put your 11 mg. dose of DMPS in the small end of the capsule and tamp it down. It would be best if the DMPS filled up the small end so you could level it off. But how ever full you get the small end of the capsule, this is the measure you could use for your subsequent doses. If you could get the same dosage volume every time, I think you would have consistent dosages. And you wouldn't have to go through the process of dividing up 32 ways each time you started a new 350 mg. DMPS capsule. The rub is getting the right size capsule. I can't think of anything to measure with that is smaller than the small end of a small capsule, but if you had some other very teeny sort of container, that would work too. Guest guest
Hi , TK is absolutely right about it being better to have your capsules recompounded if that is an option. Another possibility is asking for the refill on the prescription in a smaller dose now and saving the 350 mg capsules to split up yourself once you've reached a much higher dose. I don't know if the compounding pharmacy will give you more smaller dose pills, but it's worth a try. The problem other people have alluded to is that you are starting with such a tiny amount of material that even if you add filler it will be hard to be sure that very small amount gets evenly mixed into the filler and that you wind up with capsules with equal amounts. Guest guest
TK, , and others.. Thanks for your input on this. I really don't feel confident splitting up a dosage that large for the same reasons stated. That is why it has been sitting in my fridge for 5 months. It was prescribed for my kids, and I never gave it for the same reasons. For the past two years, I had only had to divide 25 and 50 mg DMSA for them, which was easy, on a plate. I will contact our compounding pharmacy and see if I can send it back. I am almost inclined to just go with smaller capsules of DMSA. > > Hi , > > TK is absolutely right about it being better to have your capsules > recompounded if that is an option.
