How long did it take your > gastritis to resolve? > > Thanks, > Moneca > When I developed acute symptoms, I temporarily had to stop eating and then ate very little of carefully chosen foods because I felt so nauseous when I ate. I took a lot of slippery elm and DGL. It took a little time - the first time took the longest, probably several weeks or so until I was eating more normally. This happened 3 times before I figured it out. I did not know I had a mercury problem and I did not know that ALA was a chelator. I just knew that when I got the gastritis, I had to stop eating and taking supplements. I developed similar problems when I started taking ALA for chelation. I was only taking 8 mg doses, but it really bothered my stomach and stirred up the gastritis a few times. Since I recognized and treated the symptoms sooner, and since I was taking much lower doses, the problem was not as serious. About a year ago, I took some zinc carnosine, which seemed to resolve the symptoms better than DGL and slippery elm alone. I am taking 16 mg doses of ALA now. I try to take the ALA with food whenever possible. I might actually be noticing some problems again - I am not certain at this point. (Your question is making me think about it.) It has occurred to me there may still be more damage to heal even though the obvious symptoms have been gone for awhile. I don't have good absorption, and I would not be surprised if the gut redistribution damage may still be part of the picture. I think it will heal with continued chelation and other restorative measures. One thing I've noticed since I started taking betaine hcl is my upper belly just feels better in some undefinable way, and I don't feel as bloated. I have to be pretty careful with the betaine hcl, too, as too much can cause problems. Some people get benefits from taking apple cider vinegar before meals - but seems to give me more yeast. --
Guest guest
, Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful answer. I've relied quite a bit on adults with my daughter's issues to help me understand how she feels and determine what might work to help her. Right now I have her on chamomile tea, aloe juice, and di-guize essential oil to help with the gastritis. I'm going to look into some of the things you suggested. I guess some people are just prone to the gastritis from mercury redistribution as some are prone to other symptoms. You are the only one I've found that associated gastritis with ALA use and I've asked on my questions on several different discussion boards. I'm encouraged that you can take the ALA at low doses. Her symptoms started whe I increased her TD-ALA to 10 mg so I was thinking I could never put her on it again. Maybe I can try again further down the road. Thanks again!
