Guest guest
To add to the mess - he also may have pre-LADA diabetes 1. He said when he's tested, it's around 89-95 (both before and after eating). I don't think you should EVER see a fasting level that high. Post-prandial, maybe. Of course, if cortisol or thyroid is a problem, then that could cause that. He also gets headaches after eating something sugary sometimes. I'm thinking either hyperglycemia, or a reactive hypo -which could point to low-cortisol and problems with the counter-reg system. His girlfriend also apparently has high BG, although she's not overweight *at all*, which usually rules out T2, but not always. She's 22, so pre-LADA is a possibiliy, especially if the LADA can be a very-slow-progressing autoimmnity. Or she could have sub-clinical thyroid or cortisol problems too (unlikely I think without my symptom data). God, yes - I can see why this list would tend to make people seem/ be hypochondriacs. Guest guest
OK.. Then Dr. B. was wrong - he says fasting should be 83 +-5 in nondiabetics. If those are normal, then why the hell does the ADA have the pre-diabetes fasting threshold at 99 (according to Dr. B., which is now suspect.. I haven't check on the ADA website) Jim > Hate to say thi Jim, but these are NORMAL fasting numbers. And if > they are this good AFTER eating they are great! Guest guest
I'm taking clinical nutrition in grad school and we're just learning abotu diabetes. I've been taught that 110+ fasting is pre-diabetes. 126+ is diabetes. And this would be more than just on one day...anyone can have a high level once in awhile for various reasons.
