Guest guest
Some years ago the sale of fireworks to the general public was made illegal in Sweden, due to numerous safety issues, but especially the problems caused by kids/teens playing with it (it is/was already illegal to sell fireworks to people under the age of 18, but it seems enough kids have parents and/or older siblings that will buy for them, for that to not be a real hindrance...). However... the store owners complained that the decision came with a too short notice, that they had already bought the fireworks for the season, and that not being allowed to sell it would cause too big losses for them (one think that the fact that they knew beforehand that the decision was coming would have given them enough notice...but apparently not....). Anyway, those complaints led the government to postpone the actual realization of the prohibition, in order not to create undue problems for stores and store owners, and give them time to adjust to the new regulations. That was, I think, 10 years ago, and the sales of fireworks are still going on, if anything it has increased (used to be New Year was the only "fireworks holiday", but now it seems they are pushing fireworks in on other holidays as well). One wonders just how long the stores need to "adjust"... So what we have now is a prohibition on paper, that is non-existent in practice...love/Reb>> I can hardly believe they made in legal there, Sharon! With the hot, dry climate > you have there? Guest guest
Gee, Reb, you think someone would challenge the point. How can it be one thing on paper, and another in practice? How ridiculous! I hope folks continue to be safe. love to you and , Kate To: MSersLife Sent: Fri, July 1, 2011 2:26:14 AMSubject: Re: fireworks...
