Subject: A jaunt: update on n, Edna and friendsTo: MSersLife Date: Monday, May 16, 2011, 12:15 AM

Yesterday, Saturday, a dear friend of mine, , who iscalled "Ducky," phoned and proposed a jaunt: a "Big Kids' DayOut" with her and her big car and Edna and Edna's elder son.So, Ducky picked me up and we went to get Edna and herson, Fredrick, and off we went. Ducky and Fredrick had reallyplanned the day. First we went to the giant and old Carousel inTilden Regional Park, in the Berkeley hills; we did two rounds on the carousel, and then snacked, "rested," and then continuedon to the "Little trains" which take adults and children and even old adult children through the entire park; we did that; these areopen-air steam trains! Whee! Then we went to watch the horses in their corral at the parkstables and horse-back riding place--we did not ride, even thoughI have spent much of my life riding horses--and then we went fora drive all along Grizzly Peak Boulevard

from where we could viewthe entire SF Bay area, and stop from place to place. Then we went to the Lawrence Hall of Science and Museum--wonderful--more fascinating things and, of course, more views.Ducky and Fredrick treated us, so no cost to Edna nor to me.We did this for a number of reasons. Ducky, who is 82, hascancer of the liver and has had all the treatment--save forhospice care, that can be offered her.So, she placed Edna and Fredrick and me on her "bucketlist," and we each vowed to stick with her until the bucket hasbeen emptied. Ducky and I had a long conversation at my placeafter we brought Edna and Fredrick home. Ducky knows thatmy husband, Hans Steinkellner, died of the same condition thatshe has. She asked me whether I would be willing to be with her"until the end." I assured her that I would, knowing that she mayvery well change her mind

about that, but I did assure her that Iam willing. Then she wanted to drive past the hospice care place where sheis likely to be taken; it is close enough to where I live that even Icould afford to take a taxi to get there--probably could even getthere in my Power Chair (aka: "speed demon").I told Ducky and Edna and Frederick again about this group andthey all said that when I posted about our Big Day, that I shouldexpress appreciation to each and every one of you from all of us.Love to you all,n, tired, but pleased that the day went so well
