Guest guest
> > Please help. I have had hyper symptoms on my synthroid for several weeks. However, my labs are coming back WNL---T3 252, T4 1.2. My ferritin is also very low at 12. Could this be causing me to not be able to use my synthroid? I went to a hematologist who is going to give me iv iron therapy for five days to see if this helps...Anyone with insite? > This all started after a drastic blood loss event 13 weeks ago. Prior to this I have never had any problems. MY RT3 was 33 approx 5 weeks ago as well. >

Guest guest
YES, a low ferritin will not allow (any kind) of thyroid med to function properly. And 12 is WAY too low, the usual recommendation here is 70-90. I have had very good results with iron IVs, as have others on this group. Hope this helps. > > > > Please help. Guest guest
I would bet the problem was indeed the suddenly-low ferritin. It is too early to tell what the next steps are; it will depend partly on how high your ferritin goes after the IV series. Hopefully the IVs will get you back on track and you won't need anything more. Low ferritin can cause an RT3 problem...if you have lingering symptoms after ferritin is corrected, I'd suggest an RT3 test.
