Hi Yes, getting older is always better than the alternative! lol Are you fasting only from meat or are their other stipulations? Just wondering if birthday cake is forbidden? How's your weather? We had snow overnight on Saturday night but the storm forecast for Sunday fizzled out. That's fine with me but I know the watershed needs snow and rain. Today I am freezing. It's complicated... :-D

First there's Meatfare Sunday, the last day you're supposed to eat

" anything with a backbone " (generally speaking, shellfish are allowed

through most fasts). After this coming Sunday ( " Cheesefare " ) we give up -

or try to! - eggs, dairy, olive oil and alcohol (oil and wine allowed

Saturdays and Sundays unless specifically forbidden) until Pascha, except

for a feast day or two when fish is allowed....

We have calendars with little pictures on to keep up with all this ,

thank goodness!

:-D So this week cake as we know it is still okay, next week it would have

to be eggless, milkless, (cost)chocolateless.

Today is pretty warm here - high 30s - but overcast and windy and damp

because the snow is melting...

I did that last week - the first time in 7 years I had a dinner plate size cheeze pizza - being lactose intolerant I wasn't supposed to - but I enjoyed every bite God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

Hey, it's been good for 2000 years, why change it now? ;-) Of course then you

get to the " excepts " - children under about 13, old folks, pregnant/nursing

ladies, people whose health would be affected...

Basically you do the best you can. It's a guide for spiritual growth -

conquering the " passions " - than anything set in concrete and " sinful " not to

Himself surprised me and got KFC instead - something we seldom do because it's so expensive! So I got a KFC dinner, german chocolate cake, and the rug shampooer/steamer I asked for - altogether, I'd have to vote it a "win" in the birthday sweepstakes! ;-D

The things we aren't supposed to eat always taste the best, don't they? When we get into the middle of a fast, and I'm being a good little vegetarian, the thing I always seem to want most is a big fat chili-cheese dog...

Birthday and catchup

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Getting older is always better than

the alternative, yes? :-D Yesterday was Meatfare Sunday, sigh, so I have

every intention of breaking the fast on the very first day and have

something yummy for supper....

Prayers for Kate's sister and dad, and everyone else who needs them right

now. Happy birthday to Sharon's granddaughter, may she be all better

soonest!
