Guest guest
I get Venofer 5 mL single dose vials (100 mg elemental iron per 5 mL), if my ferritin was 31 I'd get three, wait a week, then do the full iron panel again. Waiting a week after the last IV to test is important; testing too soon after an IV can show falsely elevated iron levels. You can always get more IVs, it can only help to test along the way and see how rapidly ferritin levels are improving. They are about $80 each vial at Costco and my Dr. charges $70 to administer them. As far as frequency, my Dr. would let me get 3 IVs a week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday), but I am very cautious and usually get no more than 2 a week. I am familiar only with Venofer. There are other brands of iron IVs, the frequency and dosage would most likely be different with them. > > My Ferritin levels are 31 and I need to get them up before I increase my thyroid meds. Can anyone tell me what dosage to start out with and how many times aweek and how long I should do the IV iron before I re-test. I know it is the better way and I have a MD that will be able to do it. I just need to tell him dosage, and duration. Can anyone help me on this. > Appreciate the help. > > Thanks, > Christie >
