You and your husband have been through the mill today – 7 hours

for the treatment. Interesting that he experienced an allergic reaction. If he

won’t eat the yogurt (you could!) then perhaps he’ll take the acidolphilus

capsules to get the good bacteria he needs. When I first started the SCD I

could only tolerate 1 capsule every few days, but everyone is different. And excellent

news that the # of bm’s is decreasing! That’s always a plus!

As far as using turmeric as an anti-inflammatory, I sometimes

just put the spice into an empty vegetable capsule and take it that way. But go

slowly, it could be irritating.

Thanks Carol for the links on turmeric. I had

read that it was helpful

for IBD and will look into it. In other news, based on info re:

Bosswelia, we'll stop that in a heartbeat!

Yesterday Fred (an ex-smoker) put on a nicotine patch as an experiment

to see if it would help improve his UC and/or mood, with the plan being

to continue the patch for several days. He did seem to have a slight

" lift " emotionally from the patch. He took it off after five hours

since

he wasn't sure if it would interfere with his sleep, but then felt

" weirded out " all evening, and thinks it was due to the patch. So he

didn't wear it today, although he did take 3 Bosswelia, as I hadn't

given him the news to OMG -STOP THAT STUFF!!! However, today, before

getting Remicade, he only had two BMs, which is like, uh, a record over

the last few months. And he's stopped at 2, but the night is still young. :)

Speaking of stopping, he also stopped eating the SCD yogurt as of two

days ago. He did not notice a difference a month ago when he eliminated

yogurt for a week - things didn't get worse or better, but a friend

suggested he might be allergic to the casein, and now his own little

voice has caused him to decide eliminating it again for a longer period

of time.

By the way, he developed, for the first time, an allergic reaction to

the Remicade today. They stopped it, gave him another Benadryl and a

shot of Hydrocortisone, then waited an hour for the itching and hives to

go away, and started it up again. (Although the Remicade WASN'T

dripping, and I told the nurse so, but she said it was. An hour later

she, uh, realizes I was right and gets it started. 7 hours for a

normally 3 hour infusion!)

Re: the YouTube UC chick. She goes by the name " Fern Pixel, " and is

adorable, but apparently not informed about Bosswelia being a no-no. Is

she the person who suggests using regular yogurt as starter?

Thanks for everyone's input. Learning a lot here.

Wife of Fred, PSC, 03/04, UC, 03/06, SCD 04/21/09, no more Bosswelia as

of 07/01/09, Rowasa and prednisone enemas, 06/20/09, Remicade, 4th

infusion today - all day!

And maybe we'll add nicotine patch worn with hours cut down, to de-weird

the weirdo vibes. Love to try LDN, but that may have to wait a bit due

to liver issues and Remicade.
