Guest guest
When I was in paramedic school in Houston in 1981, that happened. Turned out that the FD was out looking for it and they actually pinned it in and, so the story is told, held the culprit at bay with pikes till the cops got there. They had another one where the patient was dead from GSWs and a crowd gathered, a hostile crowd, so they put the patient in the back of the truck and got in with him. Next thing they knew, the ambulance started up. The brother of the dead guy had jumped in and started driving it to Ben Taub. I'm sure that was a merry trip. LOL. With the doors unlocked? Not once in well over twenty years. It's simple common sense, which obviously is not all that common these days. I would submit that any agency which does not require that their ambulances remain locked at all times is an agency that has only themselves to blame for misappropriated vehicles. Guest guest
I wonder how many REALLY lock their units nowadays--especially at scenes-I suppose not many. Now, if you're eating at a restaurant(a luxury) or out shopping(Huh?), then I can see locking it up, but realistically, it's not the norm and probably never will be. A service I used to work for, both crewmembers had keys(AND WE STILL GOT LOCKED OUT-LOL) and it worked well, but it was a real pain in the butt when you went to go retrieve equipment or asked a first responder to assist in getting some equipment from the rig, and you forgot to give him the key. It's got it's good points and bad. Remember, Gage and Desoto never had to lock up their unit-or was it GANDY and Desoto? (Stay warm, Gene). > > From: lifesaver276 > Subject: Re: Fw: Yahoo! Guest guest
I would gather that he got in it, put it in gear and drove away. I have seen that happen to police patrol cars while on scene.
