OAR's Kit for Kids Promotes AcceptanceArlington, VA- April 4, 2012- The Organization for Autism Research is excited to announce the release of its Kit for Kids peer education resource. Starting this month, OAR is offering this new, free resource to help students explain autism to their peers. "The idea for this resource started out with letters from students asking about autism," explained Gilmour, director, programs and community outreach. "We also had feedback from parents and teachers that kids had questions about autism but no solid resource for information." Now that resource exists. It's built around an informational booklet,What's up with Nick?, which tells a story about a new boy with autism in school through the eyes of one of his classmates. As the narrator and fellow students learn more about autism, they see past the differences it presents to better understand Nick the person. The kit includes:- 20 copies of What's up with Nick? with additional copies available depending on class size- 1 17 inch by 11 inch Kids with Autism Might... poster - 1 lesson plan intended for student useThis resource is appropriate for elementary and middle school students.
