Guest guest
My daughter had an infusion that used 2 ampoules of Ferrous Sulphate - not sure how much was in each ampoule - we had a script from the doctor, bought it at the pharmacy and took it along to the infusion clinic. That was given over about 3 hours. She kept having about 100mg daily of the BlueBonnet iron and using cast iron cookware. Her levels went from around 20 up to 161 when she was checked 3 weeks after the IV (she had 4 days iron free before the test). Can anyone tell me what dosage to start out with and how many times aweek and how long I should do the IV iron before I re-test. I know it is the better way and I have a MD that will be able to do it. I just need to tell him dosage, and duration. Can anyone help me on this. > Appreciate the help. > > Thanks, > Christie >
Guest guest
We're in Australia - Perth. The clinic here is very busy and she had to wait 6 weeks for the appointment. The script cost around $35 - we had the generic brand which was a bit cheaper. The infusion itself cost $100. The information about it which they sent out before hand said to take extra money with you in case they needed to use an extra ampoule and it needed to be paid for on the spot. She has a friend who had done a student placement at the clinic, and her friend said, 'go to the toilet before they hook you up and take a book to read'. There can be side effects from the infusion - my daughter had a lot of gut ache - she got her period when she got home and the pain was double what she usually gets. You can feel tired and have muscle aches and pains - they say not to do anything very active for a couple of days. I have heard of someone else whose usual constipation became very severe in the week afterwards. After the initial reaction (she was on the couch for a couple of days) she felt better for a couple of days and then felt tired again - we thought she would need another infusion and were really surprised by the blood test result - I guess it takes a while for the iron to get into the blood cells.
