Well, here we go again. I find it hard to understand how the Senate and the House can increase Education over $1 billion dollars and at the same time cut education funding to adults with disabilities? I never cease to be amazed at the utter ridiculousness of it all.

This funding is separate from APD Med Waiver funds. It is in the Education budget and provides services like Vocational Rehabilitation, transition, training and other services for people with disabilities to become more productive members of society. I guess Senator Lynn, Thrasher, Wise and the others listed below really could care less if people with disabilities need these funds to help them become successful members of society.

Everyone needs to call, email or fax the committee members listed below and tell them to please stop cutting funds to the most vulnerable in our society. Tell them to please put the $11.7 million back in line item #24 of the budget.

Subject: Funding for the Adults with Disabilities Grants - Immediate Action NeededImportance: High The House and Senate have issued their budget proposals for FY 2012-2013.  The House has approved its proposed budget and the Senate will be reviewing its budget tomorrow (February 15).

The House is recommending cuts to funding for the Adults with Disabilities program which would reduce the funding from $11,757,040 million to $9,993,484 (Line Item # 24).  The Senate proposal removes all funding for the Adults with Disabilities program.  The preferred position is that the program is funded at a minimum level of $11.7 million, but most importantly the Senate should at least move the House position.

If you want to make your concerns known to Senate Higher Education Committee members, now is the time to contact the Committee members.  The individuals to contact are:

Senator Lynn, Chairman of the Senate Higher Education Appropriations Committee              EMAIL: lynn.evelyn.web@...

Senator Thrasher, Vice Chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee                        EMAIL: thrasher.john.web@...

Senator Wise                   EMAIL:  wise.stephen.web@...

Senator                  EMAIL: simmons.david.web@...

Senator Athenia Joyner                  EMAIL:  joyner.arthenia.web@...

Senator Detert                    EMAIL:  detert.nancy.web@...

Senator Braynon                   EMAIL:  braynon.oscar.web@...

After the House and Senate adopt their proposed budgets, the proposals go to a Conference committee for a compromise budget. During Conference, the decision will be made as to whether to restore some or all of the funding.
