Carol,

Benzos can also be used to relax spastic muscles and also to

treat seizures in some people who have them (I know this from

personal experience).

Kristy :)

Flexeril was given to me by my pain management doctor to use if

my breakthrough pain medication had worn off and it was too soon to take any

more. He said it is a much safer drug to take than any of the benzo’s,

and is a good pain reliever as it relaxes the whole body. He did give me a prescription

for Valium to be used only for emergency pain. I have found unfortunately, that

it (Valium) really does work well, so I literally force myself not to take it. In

fact I had my husband hide it, so I have to wait until he comes home from work

to ask for it. Most of the time, either I have taken the flexeril or listened

to my meditation tapes, and I feel better, so I no longer need it by the time

he comes home. I can see how easily it would be to take more and more as the

strength wears of and you want to take more. It is a shame that a medication

that works so well has to be so dangerous. I mentioned it several times before,

but check out the Yahoo Benzo group and read the posts and see how these people

got trapped in the cycle of taking too many, and now are really suffering. But

it doesn’t happen to everybody – some can quit just fine, but you

never know which one you are until it is too late.

Flexeril, baclofen and zanaflex are typically used for muscle relaxation

when an

injury has occurred. There are many muscle relaxers and doctors are supposed to

be aware of which ones are most appropriate for the problem at hand.
