Carol, if it is very close to your rectu, this is classic for Levator

Ani spasm / increased tone.

The elavil softens the burning sensation by dampening the nerve

conduction but the muscles are still too short, too tight and too

sensitive.

Ever since I started the elavil, my burning has subsided but I

now have this feeling that comes on frequently- it feels like fist in

my behind. Did everyone ever have this?????

thanks!

Tom I talked to Dr Conway yesterday, he is a prominent physician who specializes in PN. He told me having the wrong physical therapist is worse than having any at all. Now I am confused, although mine specializes in pelvic floor issues, she had me doing kegels etc, which I know, from reading that I am not supposed to be doing. I told him I flared for 5 days after the last one. The concern is should I go back to her????

I am going to go to NH God willing so that I can get an accurate diagnosis and visit with his pt, hopefully she can instruct me where to go in the state of PA to cotinue this treatment. He seems like a very compassionate doctor (unlike mine) and calls and emails which I think is impressive. I feel like I am wasting too much time with this already. Im calling his office Monday.

arolyn,

I am sorry for your experience at the hands of my colleagues. Our

profession has a lot to learn. Kegels tighten the opening and the

levator ani.

They are more for your husband than they are for you, as they tightnen

the opening. You may need to try the "roll for control" exercises that

I have printed on my website.

These exercises lift the pelvic floor and pelvic diaphragm from the

side and do not tighten them. They are listed in the exercise protocols

on my website

www.tomocklerpt.com. They were orriginally developed by a PT for

incontinence issues but I find them to very valuable at stabilizing the

pelvis and they do not tighten the PF.
