Guest guest
Transplant requires immunosuppression and that can allow cancer to come back in a big way. If you have had cancer and are 5 years cancer-free it is considered a cure. But they will check very carefully when it comes time to be listed. When I was referred to the transplant team for biliary bypass surgery, they were extra careful about checking a swollen lymph node in my armpit and wanted a new mammogram. Fortunately it was due to a hangnail! Do you know that the kidney problem is cancer, or are you just worried at this point? Guest guest
I am on my way down for a MRI right this second to see if by some slim chance it clears me but it doesn't sound real likely. Say a prayer. >>> " Martha " 4/12/2007 9:34 AM >>> Transplant requires immunosuppression and that can allow cancer to come back in a big way. Guest guest
Here in Australia you have to be 5 years cancer free before they will list you, except for certain liver cancers, which have to be smaller than a certain size or a combined size of several really small ones. There is a measuring system, can't remember how big the limit is, but it's well documented . Penny (in Australia)
Guest guest
My experience with listing our patients for kidney transplants varies. Its usually two years cancer free for our patients. I would discuss with both the transplant center and your oncologist. He would need to clear you no matter what before a center will clear you for transplant. Hope this helps.
