Insurance won't cover Cymbalta

Hi, all, Question about anti-depressants for pain. I tried Elavil for 6 months and had to go off due to side effects. So now my doc has prescribed Cymbalta, but my insurance will not cover this because I haven't tried other brands or generic "serotonin inhibitors." Suggestions? Do the other brands work as well?
