Guest guest
>Did you also feel much better just from doing the test? Do you mean from just doing the loading test with 50mg of iodine? Not that I recall. It took a couple of weeks at 50mg before I noticed a difference. I started sleeping better. My dreams came back. I felt warmer, especially my hands. After about 5-6 weeks, a burning sensation that I'd had in my eyes went away. >It looks like nearly everyone who does the test comes out low, and >nearly everyone who supplements for three months reaches >sufficiency.Do you know if anyone is supping by how she feels? I >don't know why I'm resistant to the test. Just tired of them I >guess. Nell Remember that most people who order the test are doing so because they feel lousy or have a health concern. In general, people who feel good don't go around looking for solutions to problems that don't exist. The test isn't done as part of a wellness exam at yearly physicals. So the statistics of those that do take the test will naturally be heavier on the deficient side. Also, " low " is relative. There's been a range of at least 20% - 77% that I know of. My own test came in at 70%. Not terrible low, but still low. It's not correct that " nearly everybody " is up to whole-body sufficiency in 3 months. There are several people that I know of on the Iodine board that have been supplementing for much more than 3 months & haven't reached sufficiency. Zoe, the board moderator, is one of them. Dr. Brownstein has several in his practice in the same situation, I believe. ladybugsandbees see Dr. B & discusses iodine research with him & I think it's come up. Part of the problem may be that they were so low, their body wasn't making NIS any more (sodium-iodine symporters). When they took the test, the iodine just went right thru them. Once they started supplementing, it " woke the body up " to make NIS to be able to absorb the iodine. There are many places in the body that use iodine besides just the thyroid. IIRC, Zoe tested at 70% to start, but dropped to 59% after 3 months. I think she's worked her way back up since. There's a lot of new research coming out about how the NIS system works. It's very interesting. I'm currently supplementing by how I feel. I don't see an iodine doctor. I started on Lugol's mid-October after my baseline iodine loading test. I slowly worked my way up over 2 weeks to 8 drops/day (50mg). I stayed on that for 5 weeks. I started to feel a stinging & swelling in my thyroid area. I took a break for about a week. I started back up again very slowly - initially with only 3 drops/week. I was on that for a bit & noticed that I was feeling cold again. My hands weren't warm anymore. I had less energy. So I worked my way back up again, but this time to only 36.5mg/day (6 drops). I've been holding at that for a while. The stinging in my throat didn't come back, so this seems like a better dose for me. I have taken a break since last Thursday, only because I had a nasty stomach bug over the weekend & was throwing up. DH had it & gave it to me. I really wish he wouldn't share . I just started back on it this a.m., but at 12.5mg (2drops). I'll work my way back up again to the 37.5mg. I plan to test again before June. I'm hoping I'll eventually be on just a 12.5mg/day maintenance dose. Maybe 6.25/mg. I'm not sure yet. I'll base it on how I feel. 37-50mg isn't forever. My grandmother had breast cancer, so I want to use iodine as a preventative, as well as for low thyroid function. There's also some talk on the iodine board about the detoxing effects of iodine with mercury. There was discussion of this at the recent Iodine Conference. The iodine docs seem to think it is involved in mercury detoxing to a certain degree.

No, I meant from doing the patch test. I've been feeling much sharper mentally, with a get-things-done kind of energy, physically stronger, and a general sense of well-being. > My dreams came back. This happened to me after about 30 rounds of chelation. So nice! > Remember that most people who order the test are doing so > because they feel lousy or have a health concern. Right, I was assuming that the self-selection would be people with some sort of toxicity problem. > It's not correct that " nearly everybody " is up to whole-body > sufficiency in 3 months. Thanks for this. I guess it makes sense then to take a baseline loading tst and then re-test at some point. > Part of the problem may be that they were so low, their body wasn't > making NIS any more (sodium-iodine symporters). And it's so cool that our bodies seem to be able to recover from so many deficiencies once they get what they need, even if the recovery is slow. > I started on Lugol's mid-October after my baseline iodine > loading test. Really helpful. Nell
