Alert 3 – House version SB 1516

On

Monday, The Florida House Health and Human Services Committee will consider a

proposed bill that is the House version of SB1516.  Like SB1516 it will more than likely substantially

alter how services are prioritized and individual consumer iBudget allocations

are decided.  A bill surfacing this late

in the process means that it is on a fast track to passage.

Background: 

  Sen. Joe Negron filed SB 1516 on

behalf of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) earlier this

year.  At this point, it is close to

reaching the Senate floor.  A stripped

down version of SB 1516, called SB 1990, has also been introduced as a

conforming bill to the Appropriations Act. 

It is ready to pass the Senate.  These

bills have been changed to reflect some of the concerns expressed by parents

and others.  No one knows what the House

bill will do at this point.

Action Needed:  Contact

your Representative and ask them to make sure that APD addresses more than just

the health and safety of those for whom it is responsible to serve.  Tell them what it would mean if you had to

give up any of your loved one’s services. 

Ask them to be sure that all services are equally available to people

with developmental disabilities depending on their needs.  Below are the members of the Health and Human
