Guest guest
Alyssa Freeda recommends high doses of their vitamins and minerals. That's why I've switched over to other legal brands; I need low doses to get them past my body's immune system. I think this is another situation where everybody has different needs, so you'll have to see what your own body requires. I always start with the lowest dose possible and if my body tolerates it, then I take it more often. My philosophy is to stay minimal so my body doesn't develop a sensitivity to it. I am 55, and just started taking a calcium supplement but not for my bones (which tested fine last year), but for my muscles. I spent a year trying different calcium supplements to find one that my body would tolerate -- it is a calcium/magnesium powder I mix in water -- and I only take it once a week. That is what my body would tolerate. I'd check with your doctor on whether you need a calcium supplement. If you get regular blood tests, that should tell you how your calcium levels are doing. I wouldn't take a calcium supplement unless your levels are low or your doctor recommends it. I especially wouldn't take Freeda's recommendation of 5 per day! Of course that is my philosophy with all supplements and medications. When you have an intolerant body as I do you don't have much choice [sigh]. Kim M.
