Guest guest
Hi Kit - This is the " ingredients " list from www.rxlist.com for the " brand name " Tapazole - rxlist.com doesn't list the generic - or at least I ccan't find it. " Each tablet contains 5 or 10 mg (43.8 or 87.6 µmol) methimazole, an orally administered antithyroid drug. Each tablet also contains lactose, magnesium stearate, starch, and talc. " I can't seem to find the info on the ingredients of the generics versions. If anyone has the mfrs package insert from the generic brand (not the simpleton print-out from the pharmacy) I would REALLY be interested in knowing what they put in those. They list the ingredients at the beginning of this insert. Please post it if you can get this info. It IS always a good idea to get new mfr inserts once in a while. Just ask the pharmacy to reserve it for you. Most pharmacies will comply with your wishes on this. I apologize, as I never realized that such a small amount of starch as found in this pill would make a difference. Thank you for pointing this out. Whereas a doctor would tell you this is impossible, I will tell you that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE -- I KNOW! Sometimes I'm GLAD I don't have 8 years of medical school to cloud my thinking.... LOL! The only thing I could suggest is finding a compounding pharmacy that can take the pure methimazole drug and put it into capsules with GF fillers - or at least one that you could tolerate, such as corn starch, rice starch, or tapioca starch, etc. I went gluten-free for a year, and I know exactly what you mean about the extra sensitivity to re-introducing anything that you have eliminated for a while. I did find that I could tolerate some gluten on re-introduction, but ANYTHING with ANY yeast in it, absolutely kills me now, and will trigger instant heart palps if I ingest it. I did not have full blown Celiac, but I did suspected candida, and other " critters " were messing up my gut. Thanks for asking about the GI. I appreciate your help on that one. I'm going to see my GP this week and since I trust him (yes kids, it DOES happen on occasion--a trustworthy doctor) I'm going to see if he knows of someone. The trip from here to L.A. is brutal, due to traffic congestion. If you're not going 75 mph on the freeway, you practically get run off the road. But you can still get ticketed...... go figure. Guest guest
Hi Sue - I don't know. Call your pharmacy and ask what they gave you and the manufacturer's name. Usually if it is the original brand name, it is listed as Tapazole on the pharmacy label. I'm not saying that the generic isn't any good. Several people have great luck with it. I personally don't have very good luck with " most " generics and try to fit the brand name into my budget (as I pay cash for prescriptions anyway). Chris > > Hi > I'm on methimazole 10mg 3x a day. This is generic form of Tap correct? > Sue >
