Guest guest
I would guess from what I read, anxiety is a pretty common problem along with FMS, and one that I struggled with forever, even before FMS. In my case the " cure " was serendipity...I had been severely depressed and finally went to see a psychiatrist because I was at the end of my rope. He prescribed Celexa, and as the depression lifted, so did the anxiety. For the first time in my life I felt at peace with myself. The Fibro pain seemed a little better too, but the improvement in my mental state was astounding! I know it doesn't work that way for everyone, I consider myself VERY lucky. But my point is, don't suffer with it, there is help out there! I was so hesitant because I was afraid drugs would artificially change me or alter my " real " thoughts. I know now that is not true, that I was chemically unbalanced and NEEDED help. The ONLY difference in me is that I am free of the horrible, crippling, alien that lived in my head! As a sidebar, I would like to mention that my tag line is " Never say never " . There was a time, not all that long ago, that I emphatically stated : I would NEVER put that crap into my body! Ha, I am still eating my words. I sort of thought if I took drugs for depression or anxiety, I was " whimping " out. I didn't think that of *other* people, just me. I was wrong, I tried to do it on my own, couldn't and am much happier on drugs. > There was a time, not all that long ago, that I emphatically > stated : I would NEVER put that crap into my body! Guest guest
Anxiety My acupuncturist wants me to take SAM-e for anxiety for short term use.I am doing much much better but am still struggling. This may be due to rapid Prednisone withdrawal. My pain doc and GI are pretty much in agreement about this. Here is the info about SAM-e.Does anyone treat anxiety with SAM-e?http://www.minddisorders.com/Py-Z/SAMe.htmlHere are the ingredients;http://www.smartbomb.com/jfsamebx.htmlFull of illegals. I might get it compounded just wondering in the short term ifit is worth it.Thanks!Jodi

Guest guest
Sometimes I wonder, with the discussion of the bowel brain connection, if there is not some connection with anxiety....kids with autism can also be anxious as well... something to ponder... Jodi, I was also anxious when I first started having D, and the medication made it worse.. along with insomnia. I did not try Same-E. My GP gave me Lexapro which made everything worse. I finally did consult a psychiatrist- someone who really listened to me, after what my GP recommended did not work. Xanax does work, and is short acting as well- but this is what can make it more addictive and harder to stop ( depending on how much and how long ) I agree with Terry that it helps for short term use. The psychiatrist recommended a very small dose of Remeron. The biggest complaint about this drug is that for some people it increases appetite and they gain a lot of weight. There are people who swear it is evil for that. I was afraid of this, but at this tiny dose, it so far, (thankfully )has not. At low doses Remeron is sedating, and at higher doses it is not, but since depression was not the issue- I did not want to go to a higher dose. Because I was already given Xanax and had been taking it, and was concerned about suddenly stopping, she switched me to Klonipin. The very small dose of both at bedtime got me through the night. I am now weaning off the Klonipin, and we will reassess the need for Remeron over the next few months. Really, all we both wanted was for me to get some sleep, and thankfully, so far, it has worked. I too am very wary of being snowed on drugs, and my GP was more intent on them than the psychiatrist...I feel like the psychiatrist really did listen to me and I was pretty vocal about my discomfort with too much medication. We discussed the options carefully. Guest guest
My daughter is on this diet because of anxiety issues and it helped her tremendously. I'm sure you all have heard my story, so I'm not going to go into details. I will say what just happened to her this weekend is worth telling you all about. She's been depressed lately and then within the last week, is starting to get anxious again. She was real bad today at 5 am. I called the nutritionist in tears today and here is what she came up with. For one thing Rach has seasonal allergies and so needs a natural supplement to deal with them. By not dealing with them, it puts a strain on your adrenals which then can cause anxiety/depression. Also, has not been taking her multiple vitamin from the nutritionist for weeks and that also plays a factor in her anxiety. The B vitamins and magnesium in the multiple are needed for anxiety/depr. Rach is on Paxil which the nutritionist is against and I do think once school ends for the summer we will wean her off the Paxil and put her on the natural supplement that the nutritionist recommends for that. So the bottom line is the nutritionist has helped us with all of our issues. I totally recommend trying to find a good one. She's also the one who put Rach on this diet and it has been a God-send. (She had missed months of school and was having panic attacks constantly. and couldn't go to church, etc. Doctors were useless. The Lord led us to this nutritionist and she ran tests. She has celiac disease and had an overgrowth of bacteria which is what was messing up her gut. She started this diet Oct. 1 and was back to school Dec. 1. And has been doing wonderfully up until now and I do think it's because of the seasonal allergies and also her not doing her multiple vitamin that has messed her up this time. So hopefully that will help her now too.) Just wanted to share my story. Guest guest
GNC makes a Sam-E that has no SCD illegals in it. It's rather expensive though. My husband swears that SAM-e helped his UC for awhile, dx 03/06. It also helps his depression a bit, and also good for the liver. He has primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare, autoimmune liver disease, dx 03/04, that caused the UC. Been on the SCD for about six weeks, after ALL meds failed. Had 3 Remicade treatments, no success yet. SCD beginning to show some promise, and he's feeling much better physically, more energy. Big D still happening, but less so. Wife of Fred, PSC, 03/04, UC, 03/06, SCD 04/09, off all other meds but Remicade, 3 infusions in 09 thus far.
