Guest guest
I've been following the LDN discussions with interest and I'm pondering my next steps in my life with UC. As many of you know, I had a mild flare with bleeding in March-April that I'm pretty sure was brought on by some IV antibiotics I received during an outpatient surgery. I was ultimately able to stop the bleeding by using Canasa suppositories, which I have discontinued. I have also gone back on my old standby med, sulfasalazine, but I'm tapering it and am not having any symptoms. Since it didn't change anything during the flare, I'm dubious as to whether it's really doing anything anyway. From a diet perspective, I'm pretty much back to eating anything that's SCD legal without symptoms. So - my internal debate is whether I should just shoot for getting back to where I was before, which was strict SCD, med-free, and symptom-free. Or, is there value in trying LDN? It seeems like so many people have had great results not only for intestinal disease but for other things like allergies, PMS, etc. (things that I also suffer from). But on the other hand, isn't simply being med-free better? It just seems like it's a bit of a hassle to get the prescription for LDN. I'm pretty sure my GI doctor won't go for it, because I mentioned it when I was in for my flare and he said, " that's only for Crohn's, which is different than what you have. " (duh) I could probably get my family doctor to write a script, but I'm debating whether it's worth the effort. Thoughts?
