Guest guest
Does anyone on SCD get cramps for example from doing crunches? I never used to have this problem before SCD, but ever since, I get these unbearable cramps in my muscles where after 20 crunches only, the ab muscles get locked when they are tensed and it takes lying on my stomach and arching my back to reverse it. Even after that it tenses up again if I bend over. After 10 minutes this goes away. This also happens when doing push ups in my chest muscles. I'm wondering if it some how related to being extra dehydrated on the diet or perhaps something that carb food provide which is no longer available. Anyone else have this? That sounds pretty bizarre. I've heard that potassium deficiency can cause cramps, but that may be more in the legs. Sounds like some sort of deficiency anyways. Are you working out soon after eating? Pour Dieu, pour terre,Alyssa =D

Additionally, I also take 1000 IU of vitamin D in a separate pill on days alternating with the multi-vitamin. I also eat plenty of bananas so I doubt it could be a deficiency in potassium B

Maybe only after a piece of fruit. I eat plenty of bananas. Maybe I've just gotten really out of shape since starting the diet.

While historically I've had a tendency to get muscle cramps, that would usually only occur after a many hour bike ride, triathlon, hike or other athletic activity. I'm *much* more prone to them now which I believe is a combination of the colitis (less water absorbed by the colon...which is why UCers get diarrhea...) and the SCD. You should see me when I get locked up in a yoga class. Truly a sight to behold as I try to unwrap myself from a pose with dozens of cramped muscles while trying not to scream. > I'm wondering if it some how related to being extra dehydrated on > the diet or perhaps something that carb food provide which is no longer > available. Carbohydrates do store more water in the body, hence the term carbo " hydrate " (no, really). My belief is the combination of low carbs and probably low electrolytes, primarily NaCl, due to preparing all my own food are the contributing factors (on top of the colitis). I have terrific results with Endurolyte capsules, but I'll order the powder next time since there are some borderline illegals with the capsules: http://www.hammernutrition.com/za/HNT?PAGE=PRODUCT&PROD.ID=4037 -- Cheers, DF in MA UC June '07 SCD Nov '
