Volcanos and ash

Well everyone, now I am not only grumpy about the cold, 18 degrees

right now and falling but now have to get out the masks and extra

hepa filters. Mt Redoubt volcano across the inlet in Lake

Nationsl Park has increased sismic activity. The Alaska Volcano

Observatory thinks an eruption is possible within days or weeks. On

Tuesday there was a muddy discharge from the Drift River glacier

directly below the summit crater. When it erupts it usually has a

large explosion that shoots up an ash cloud 40,000 ft high.

Last time it errupted air traffic was interrupted and it covered

Anchorage with a thin layer of volcanic dust. The Red Cross advised

Alaskans to assemble a disaster kit yesterday.

Another cheery little note, I read in the Journal Chest that after

Katrina, Homeland Security decided that in the event of a disaster,

people who were elderly, had heart or lung disease or were on oxygen

were to be triaged to the bottom of the list and no attempts were to

be made to help them survive...well folks, I'm a gone goose! I have

my generator to run my consentrator, c-pap and electric blanket at

home and the alternator in the car...so long as there is gas... Cross

your fingers that the wind is blowing the other way! Goodnight, will

it be white snow or grey ash in the morning?
